Summary

The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand is currently looking to fill the vacancy of Public Works Operator – Seasonal, On-Call. Reporting directly to the Public Works Lead Hand and the Public Works Manager, this role is responsible for the daily operations of roads maintenance while using heavy trucks, dumps/plows and/or loaders. This position requires flexibility and availability to support the department during winter months.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry out tasks and duties that are part of the winter municipal roads programs, including snow-plowing, sanding, and other requirements of the public road maintenance program.
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1990 and municipal health and safety policies as they pertain to Public Works employees.
• Report all deficiencies and hazards regarding municipal equipment and conditions to the Public Works Lead Hand.
• Perform duties efficiently and effectively, communicating courteously and respectfully with the public and township staff.
• Perform other duties as prescribed by the Public Works Lead Hand.

Qualifications & Skills

• Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in construction, road maintenance, utility setting, farm equipment, dump truck or equivalent heavy equipment operation.
• Valid DZ license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Evening and weekend work required.
• Experience operating a tandem plow truck with wing and sander is considered an asset.
• Employee must provide own CSA approved safety footwear.
• Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Hours of Work

This is a casual call-in position starting the week of November 2, 2026, through the week of April 24, 2027.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is $31.45 (January 1, 2026 wage rate CUPE 5574).
