Employment Opportunity

The Corporation of the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand is currently seeking to fill the position of Parks, Recreation & Facilities Labourer – Seasonal Contract Position. Reporting to the Parks, Recreation Facilities Manager, this role is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the day-to-day operation of all parks, trails and Municipal facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safe operation of all arena and grounds keeping equipment including ice resurfaces, floor cleaners, lawn tractor and mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, Township trucks.
• Taking regular and scheduled refrigeration equipment readings and logging them accordingly.
• Operate equipment including, but not limited to, ice making, ice maintenance, janitorial, and building maintenance.
• Ensuring ice-making equipment is maintained in accordance with technical specifications and preventative maintenance procedures.
• Assisting in the installation and removal of ice, flooding, ice painting, shaving, edging and building.
• Coordinating dressing rooms for user groups and ensuring cleanliness by mopping, removing waste and debris.
• Responding proactively to customer service issues courteously and efficiently.
• Identifying hazards and taking corrective actions; informing the Parks and Recreation Lead Hand of unsafe situations affecting staff or public safety.
• Performing opening and closing duties, ensuring alarms are set and doors locked.
• Setting up and tearing down for special events in Township facilities including arenas, recreation centres, and other venues.
• Maintaining exterior sidewalks, walkways, parking lots and emergency exits to be clean, clear and hazard free (ice, snow, debris).

Qualifications & Skills

• Completion of Grade 12 education (OSSD or equivalent).
• Minimum valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of provincial legislation related to facility operations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act and Technical Safety Standards Association (TSSA).
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED training.
• Minimum one (1) year Parks and Recreation experience, preferably in a municipal setting.
• Experience operating an ice re-surfacer considered an asset.
• Certified Grounds Technician designation considered an asset.
• Horticultural, arborist, sports field, irrigation, landscaping & municipal experience are assets.
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required.
• Employee to provide own CSA approved safety footwear.
• Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.

Hours of Work

This is a seasonal contract position which includes evenings and weekends. The contract starts the week of November 9, 2026 and ends May 1, 2027.

Compensation

The pay rate for this position is $21.15 per hour (January 1, 2026 Wage rate CUPE 5574).
