Operator/Labourer

Position Details

• Work Location: Green Valley and St. Andrew's Patrol locations during winter maintenance season; Green Valley Patrol location during summer season
• Schedule: 40 hours per week, consisting of four (4) 10-hour shifts
• Salary: $31.69/hour (Current Union Rate) plus benefit package and pension

Key Duties Responsibilities Activities

• Maintain a valid DZ license
• Operate County owned heavy equipment including front end loaders, 6 Ton Plow Trucks, tractor mowers and other mobile equipment efficiently according to County policies and procedures
• Patrol County roads, perform equipment and building maintenance and provide general labour as required
• Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance on operated equipment
• Complete work reports, inspection sheets and other documentation as required
• Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
• Advise Patrol Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repair per County procedures
• Participate in routine training such as WHMIS, Health & Safety, Winter Maintenance
• Perform other related duties as required
• Follow all Health & Safety policies and report any non-compliance or possible safety risks

Qualifications

• Proficient knowledge and skills in truck and heavy equipment safety
• Operation of front end loaders, 6 Ton plow trucks, and other mobile equipment
• Knowledge of road construction and shoulder maintenance techniques
• Record keeping systems
• Heavy equipment cleaning and maintenance procedures
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate various hand and power tools
• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and responsibly
• Public relations skills
• Problem solving and analytical skills
• Decision making skills
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to read and write English to complete operation reports
• Time management skills
• Ability to provide current satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
• Ability to provide current satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Consideration given to applicants with valid Class DZ license preferably for three years and ability to work well in a small group
